On Wednesday, one lane of a Dunkin’ in Quincy, Massachusetts stopped serving humans. For three hours, it served only dogs.
The event was called “Dunkin’ for Dogs,” a collaboration between Dunkin’ and the dog brand BARK, running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a location on Washington Street. One drive-thru lane stayed open for regular customers. The second lane welcomed dogs only, handing out treats, limited-edition bandanas, and plush toys from the new BARK x Dunkin’ collection to anyone who made a donation to the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation.
This is the seventh year of the partnership. It has never had its own lane before.
Together, BARK and Dunkin’ have raised more than $15 million and sold over a million dog toys since the collaboration began. The money funds Dogs for Joy, a program that places trained facility dogs in children’s hospitals to help kids through the harder parts of treatment — including teaching them how to take medication.
“Dogs go where their people go,” BARK’s Dave Stangle said of the drive-thru. “This year, dogs aren’t just tagging along, they’re the ones being served.” Which is a polite way of saying dogs have been riding shotgun on Dunkin’ runs, unpaid and unacknowledged, for decades. This is back pay.
The celebration wasn’t limited to Quincy. Select Dunkin’ locations nationwide handed out the limited-edition bandanas and toys on National Dog Day while supplies lasted, and the full toy collection — including a Wake-Up Wrap toy with two squeakers and an oversized iced latte toy with a hidden squeaker donut inside — remains available online at bark.co/dunkin.
